In Solidarity with the Women of Iran

On September 16, Mahsa Amini died after three days in custody of Iran’s morality police force; she had been detained for wearing her hijab incorrectly. In response, thousands of courageous women across Iran have been leading demonstrations in the streets to burn their hijabs in protest and fighting for their right to self-determination. Masha’s death is only the most recent tragedy that has resulted from Iran’s decades-long abuse and oppression of women, LGBTQ+ people, low-income families, and other marginalized communities—all in the interest of gaining more control, power, and wealth. Ohio Women’s Alliance stands in solidarity with Iranian women in their calls for revolution and demands for autonomy, equity, and justice. We call on leaders in the U.S. and across the globe to take action to protect them, and have outlined a few ways you can support women in Iran below.
