Central Ohio Field Manager (1099 Contract)

This role will work across Ohio Women’s Alliance (a 501(c)(3) and Ohio Women’s Alliance Action Fund (a 501(c)(4)), both nonprofit entities with intersecting yet separate missions.
Position Title: Field Manager
Reports To: Deputy Director
FLSA Status: 1099 Contract
Location: The candidate must be based in central Ohio. The position is remote and provides access to office space located in Columbus, Ohio. Consistent attendance at Columbus-area events is required, along with occasional in-state travel for in-person events, meetings, and other activities.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Deputy Director, the Field Manager will manage the civic engagement and electoral campaigns for Ohio Women’s Alliance and Ohio Women’s Alliance Action Fund to mobilize our members to build power and achieve long-term change for sustainability and political wins. The Field Manager will lead and manage OWA Action Fund’s field strategy and process ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle. This role works closely with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to implement the strategic priorities of both Ohio Women’s Alliance and Ohio Women’s Alliance Action Fund. The Field Manager will manage a team of program managers and fellows to execute these bodies of work.
Scope of Work
OWA is seeking a Field Manager who will work under the direction of the Deputy Director to manage a team of ten or more seasonal 1099-contractors in the 2026 election cycle. This position will take ownership of the following buckets of work:
Manage civic engagement and advocacy programs, including managing campaign staff
Support leadership development by building up a deep bench of RJ leaders through our campaign work, who will be informed, trained, and mobilized on core OWA policy campaigns
Directly manages daily activities of canvassers to build out large-scale voter engagement programs, including voter registration and door-knocking in assigned turf
Hold daily launch and debriefs with canvassers to address issue education, best practices, quality control, and other topics
Train, hold accountable, and provide ongoing motivation and support to canvass leads and canvassers
Work in the field with canvassers and teams as necessary.
Coach canvassers to have effective conversations with targets and ensure best practices are being used
Break down campaign goals by canvasser to set clear expectations for assigned work
Create reports such as progress-to-goal, voter IDs, and contact rates to make adjustments to canvasser teams; has the acumen to understand what adjustments should be made ASAP and what needs to be discussed with the Deputy Director
Report regularly to the Deputy Director to assess progress toward the goal and triage issues in the field
Review reporting and identify trends and issues of concern with individual canvassers.
Work to triage issues while also reporting issues and possible solutions to the Deputy Director
Work as directed by the Deputy Director to implement and adjust necessary training.
Make recommendations for training specific to the team
Ensures there is adherence to training standards, script usage, script approvals, script completion, reporting, and a clear field feedback loop.
Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for all staff
Assist with hiring, training, and managing of canvassers in the assigned turf
Field spot checks and field audits for quality control of canvassing teams
Oversee the proper completion of HR paperwork for canvassers.

The ideal candidate for this position has:
Two to four years of direct field experience.

Familiarity with data and metrics for analyzing political engagement, voting patterns, demographics, and the impact of civic engagement campaigns
Experience with any of the following platforms is a plus, though not required (training will be provided): EveryAction, Hustle, Spoke, Callhub, GetThru, Reach, Slack, VAN
Familiarity with the political landscape and ecosystem of Reproductive Justice, Health, and Rights-oriented organizations and agencies in Ohio is a plus, but not required.
Start Date and Compensation
The Project Manager position is a temporary 1099 contractor role starting in June 2026 and lasting through November 2026. This position is expected to require 20-25 hours per month at $35-40 per hour.
Most of the work will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. EST. We prefer the contractor to be available during these hours for occasional staff work, as requested. This includes attending meetings with the Deputy Director and other senior staff, as well as meetings with team members and strategic partners as needed.
Accessibility Info & Physical Requirements:
This position is designed to be mostly remote with the option to utilize our shared office space in downtown Columbus. While daily work is mostly remote, there is an expectation to attend occasional in-person meetings and events.
Our shared office space is located in a building less than a block from accessible public transportation
This office has an entrance with no steps near free, accessible parking and an elevator.
The office has an ADA accessible bathroom
Physical requirements include: long periods of sitting, working on a computer in chunks of time that can extend to 8-hour days, consistent communication via computer, driving/being transported for occasional travel
