Myia (she/her/hers) is a social worker, womanist/feminist, and long-time advocate. Myia is passionate about building relationships to strengthen communities. Upon graduation from the University of Cincinnati in 2016, Myia got her start in community care and worked in various non-profit organizations across the city of Columbus focusing on championing the health, safety, and education of youth in Franklin County. As an Americorps member in Columbus City Schools, Myia served as a student success coach working to decrease the knowledge gap and increase the social-emotional wellness of middle school students. It was through this experience that Myia decided to become a social worker. Seeing students and their families live through systemic oppression and meticulously designed hardships enacted to further disenfranchise Black folks and low-income folks motivated Myia to attend graduate School at The Ohio State University., where Myia learned to think critically to dismantle these oppressive systems that continue to impact many Black folks living in the city of Columbus. Since graduating in 2022, Myia has gone on to become the Director of Membership at Ohio Women's Alliance. In her role, she creates community programming that centers and prioritizes the holistic wellness and care of BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and young people, all done through the lens and framework of Reproductive Justice. Myia believes in consistent naps, reading whenever possible, and joy as a way of life.
