**CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AWARD**
**Aleena Starks**, a Cleveland native, is the Ohio Director for the Working Families Party where she recruits, trains and elects progressive candidates and organizes and mobilizes around issue campaigns that impact working people. Aleena brings over a decade of advocacy for Ohio's Black, brown and marginalized communities. With a track record spanning activism, organizing, and electoral campaign management, Aleena has fought for the incarcerated, affordable housing, living wage, voter rights, and reproductive justice and healthcare for all.

Ohio Women’s Alliance is based in the state now known as Ohio, specifically on Shawnee, Myaamia, Hopewell, Kaskakia land. We are guests of the traditional stewards of this land. Ohio is the traditional territory of hundreds of different indigenous tribes and nations, including the Erie, Wyandotte, Mingo, Shawnee, Delaware, Miami, Huron, Ojibwe, Potawatomi and Odawa. In spite of ethnic cleansing, forcible removal, unrecognized sovereignty, and outright denial of their existence, indigenous people are still here.
