This role will work across Ohio Women’s Alliance (a 501(c)(3)) and Ohio Women’s Alliance Action Fund (a 501(c)(4)), both nonprofit entities with intersecting yet separate missions.
Position Title: Development Manager
Reports To: Senior Director of Finance & Operations
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Location: Ohio-based or willing to relocate with a potential relocation package. Remote with access to office space in Columbus. Limited in-state travel required for meetings and events.
Position Summary
OWA seeks a skilled communicator and relationship builder to execute our fundraising strategy and advance our mission. The Development Manager will lead grant writing and reporting; support donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; manage the donor database; and coordinate development-related events and campaigns. The ideal candidate has nonprofit development experience, outstanding writing skills, strong project management abilities, and alignment with Reproductive Justice values.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy & Pipeline Management
Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), including the Executive Director, to execute OWA & OWA AF’s annual fundraising plan
Maintain a clear fundraising pipeline, including individual, foundation, corporate, and government prospectsLead and execute fundraising strategies for our 501(c)(4), including cultivating major donors, managing grassroots giving programs, overseeing compliance with applicable political fundraising regulations, and aligning revenue efforts with the organization’s advocacy goals
Prepare briefings, updates, and materials for donor meetings, funder conversations, and internal strategy discussions
Track progress toward revenue goals and provide regular updates to the SLT
Grant Writing & Grants Management
Research, identify, and qualify new funding prospects aligned with OWA’s mission and values
Write compelling, well-researched, and tailored grant proposals
Manage an updated grant calendar to ensure timely submission of proposals, renewals, and reports
Work with the Senior Director of Finance & Operations to draft grant budgets, compile supporting documents, and complete accurate grant reportsCoordinate with program staff to gather data, stories, and updates for reporting
Donor Stewardship, Cultivation & Events
Support Senior Leadership Team with development and execution of OWA’s individual giving program, including donor segmentation, annual appeals, online campaigns, and mid-level donor strategy
Support planning and execution of donor-focused events, including cultivation events and in-person fundraisers
Represent OWA at community and donor events; support the Executive Director and Deputy Director in preparation and follow-up for donor engagementsEnsure timely acknowledgement letters, donor stewardship touchpoints, and ongoing relationship maintenance
Donor Database & Development Operations
Manage and maintain the donor database in collaboration with Communications & Data staff, ensuring accurate, timely, and complete donor records
Oversee gift entry, data integrity, and regular reporting to inform fundraising strategyGenerate donor lists, giving histories, and segmentation for appeals, campaigns, and stewardship
Develop systems and processes that strengthen development operations and organizational efficiency
Collaboration with Marketing & Communications
Partner with the communications team to develop donor communications, annual giving materials, fundraising collateral, grant narratives, and impact stories
Support messaging that aligns fundraising needs with organizational programs and storytelling priorities
Experience & Competencies Desired for the Role
Alignment with the values of Reproductive Justice, including a commitment to equity, bodily autonomy, and community-centered work
A commitment to ongoing development as an anti-racist leader
3+ years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or related fields; experience in movement-building or Reproductive Justice settings preferred
Exceptional writing and editing skills, especially for grants and donor communications
Attention to detail, especially with regard to deadlines and grant requirements
Strong relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders
Adaptability in a demanding social and political environment
Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines at onceComfort working independently, taking initiative, and managing sensitive information with discretion
Experience with donor databases (e.g., EveryAction, Bonterra, Bloomerang, Salesforce, or similar) strongly preferred
Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and digital fundraising tools.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $65,000 and commensurate with experience. OWA is proud to offer eligible employees a robust benefits package, including 100% employer-paid medical, vision, and dental insurance plans, life insurance, and a 401(k) retirement plan with a discretionary 4% employer contribution. Eligible employees receive additional fringe benefits, including the Doula and Reproductive Health Policy and 16 weeks of Extended Paid Leave. Eligible staff receive 22 days of paid time off, and the organization observes 13 holidays.
Accessibility Info & Physical Requirements
This position is designed to be mostly remote with the option to utilize our shared office space in downtown Columbus. While daily work is mostly remote, there is an expectation to attend occasional in-person meetings and events.

This office has an entrance with no steps near free, accessible parking and an elevator.
The office has an ADA accessible bathroom
Physical requirements include: long periods of sitting, working on a computer in chunks of time that can extend to 8-hour days, consistent communication via computer, driving/being transported for occasional travel
